Sunflower seeds

I almost forgot to update ya'll on the sunflower seeds.... First, I took about 3/4 cup of salt and mixed it into about 3 quarts of water ... Next, I stirred all the seeds in and got em boiling... Then they simmered for about 2 hours and came out looking like this... Next, I spread them out on cookie sheets with paper towels under and on top and dried them overnight.... And it was inevitable that I'd make a mess at some point... This was that point. Even the sink wasn't safe from my messiness... Anyway.... After they dried, I baked them at 300 for 30-40 minutes... (I tied both, I prefer 40 minutes) Yummy! They came out tasting better than the ones you get at the store...! Next year... I'm harvesting just a bit earlier and I will get more than the birds and squirrels get! Not too bad of haul from our little sunflowers though...

  1. They were awfully yummy but might I suggest that you do your dear wife a huge favor and use Sea salt next time so I too can enjoy them :)

  5. Sunflower seeds are great, but don't eat too many at a time. They tend to, um.... bind you up, if you know what I mean.

  11. Looks delicious.

Reminds me of the summers with my grandparents.

My grandma used to roast seeds. They tasted delicious.

    Enjoy your bounty.
