Christian Rock?
I love music. I always have... I listen to a pretty good variety of stuff... I could go from Led Zeppelin to Peter Paul & Mary to Exodus to Hank Jr. to Arlo Guthrie to Run DMC and not think twice about it...
Lately, I find myself listening to the Christian radio station a lot, but I have run into a problem there... Our local station tries to play music that's "not too soft, but not too hard"... After a while, it starts all sounding the same to me... I get bored... I need the variety. So I have found myself searching for variety in Christian music.
And this is where I am running into a problem... It's easy to find the contemporary 'top of the charts' Christian artists... It's not too hard to find the hardcore metal Christian bands... But where are the Christian rockers? Where is the Southern Rock? Where can I find bands like Lynard Skynard, Led Zep, Black Crowes, etc? Where can I find bands who sound anything like what I already listen to?
Anybody have any suggestions?

Sirius! My car came equipped with a satellite radio installed and a one-year free subscription to this station. I don't listen to Christian music, but they have EVERY kind of music available. May be worth picking up a $30 radio from Radio Shack and getting a $12/month subscription...
Mhm - I usually just download Christian songs (yes legally, with license) and than burn my own CD's with songs I really like. But my favorite groups are Third Day & Mercy Me :)
Hello Guppyman,
Popped over from Dee's :)
I would be interested to learn what you class as 'Christian artists' - I perceive this as 'church music' such as hymns etc.?
Hmmmm.... Sorta miladysa...
In my church, yes... that would be considered 'church music'.
In most, maybe not so much. I go to a very contemporary church... they've got a band up on stage... they rock.
We've taken people with us who describe going to my church as attending a rock concert....
Here are my suggestions, from someone who listens to Christian music quite a bit. A great radio station to listen to is KLOVE. It's a nationwide radio station, should be on FM, at least it is in Austin, well actually I just checked for you and there aren't any in the Houston area. As far as musicians, for good old rock n' roll stuff or maybe even a little more modern style try these artists:
Todd Agnew, Third Day, Mercy Me, Newsboys, Jars of Clay, Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp, Big Daddy Weave, Audio Adrenaline, Delirious?, David Crowder Band, Chris Rice, SONICFLOOd and Six Pence None the Richer (yes, they are a Christian group). For a heavier touch of metal, try Whiteheart.
Hope this helped you out to get started.
Oh, and Delirious? does spell their name with the question mark just in case you were wondering if I didn't know how to spell. LOL. :D
If you go to the store Audio Adrenaline and DC Talk are considered alternative Christian... which I like by the way, Christian rap you have Toby Mac (Extreme Days is a good song) or hard Christian rap try T-Bone, Theif In the Night is an awesome song, I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes rap. Third Day is probably as close to southern rock as you could get, in my opinion. They are another one of my favorites. Mercy Me and Casting Crowns are more the soft pop sound you are talking about, but I really like them too. Praise and worship try David Crowder or Chris Tomlin. David likes to use a lot of synthesizer sounds in his music. It is kind of a different sound. Sunsets and Sushi is a good CD if you like that kind of sound. All of these are my favorites, I tried to give you something other than the top 40 pop sound. Let me know what you think.

Thanks folks for the suggestions! Iknow most of these already....
Just trying to expand my listening choices.
I found a band called Demon Hunter that is kinda like a Christian black metal band... pretty cool stuff.
Toby Mac was kinda neat joe... thanks for that one...
Any more anybody can think of?
We also found these :
Stryper-Reborn
Flyleaf-I'm so sick
I agree Toby Mac was cool ....was kind of rock rap like ...
Keep the ideas coming guys :)
I forgot if you like country, Randy Travis has had an album out for a few years now with songs like Three Wooden Crosses and Pray for the Fish.
Toby Mac used to be in DC Talk, some of there older stuff is pretty good. (In case you didnt know.)
Audio Adenaline Underdog CD is one cd I like every song.
Sorry, I get carried away when it comes to music. I am like you Guppy, Run DMC to country to CCR to evrything in between, I like it all.
ohhh and I am liking Skillet alot as well :)
Found an online Christian heavy rock and metal station for you that you can listen to online. It's called Reign Radio. http://www.reignradio.com/
BTW, did you know that Alice Cooper is a born again Christian? Now his concerts have stuff like alter calls at the end of them, etc. He's huge into getting the Gospel out there through his music now and he's the President of a Christian nonprofit charity for inner-city kids.
Who knew that this is where he would end up? I like it though! Here's a link to a pretty good article on his faith. http://www.thunderstruck.org/cooper.htm
I really like Seventh Day Slumber, Kutless, and 1000 foot krutch. I like Big Dismal too.
I hear ya! I'm always trying to find good music. My problem is that I don't want to just cold-buy an album - that's $20 down the tube if I don't like it.
BUT, I've recently discovered Switchfoot. They're a Christian band, but not blatnatly so (read: they're played on secular radio, too). They're great! I just bought two of their albums (Beautiful Letdown and Nothing is Sound)
Check out their music here: http://www.switchfoot.com/musicmain.htm You can hear samples.
btw, I've put in a bid to rent your blog! :)
