Gasoline.....

This map really disturbs me.... Besides the fact that absolute LOWEST price on the map is $2.37.... It's where the prices are high or low... I live on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I deal with refineries that are making gas for the rest of the country. I breathe the pollution... I look at the things daily. So why is it that the lowest prices aren't where they make the gas? You'd think that the farther they had to ship the stuff, the higher the price would be, right? But that doesn't seem to be the way it works at all..... That really sucks. I figured out what I need.... I need a king cab pickup that runs on water. Something I can pile as many people and as much junk as I want to in it, but it doesn't cost much at all to operate.... Somebody wake up congress and tell them it's time to drill anywhere we have oil, and to drop the huge tax on gasoline for at least a little while.... my wallet can't take much more of this.

I so agree with you. It's getting to were I am working to pay for the gas to get me to work and not much else. Something really needs to be done.

I hear ya' on this. California makes their own gas (since of course, we can't use the kind of gas that the rest of the country uses...tools.) yet, looking at that map, I see that California is at the tippy top of prices. RAWR.

You ain't seen nothin' yet! Part of this price spike is because the refineries are now changing over to use ethanol instead of MTBE (which replaced lead.) Remember, MTBE leaked out of a few gas stations in California and got into the water system, but instead of going after the gas stations the gov. outlawed MTBE. Ethanol uses 1.8 gallons of gas for every 1.0 gallon produced, and it gets about 70% of the mileage that a gallon of gas gets. So this will not lower your gas bill, but raise it, and you will have to fill up more often. Can you say Lobbyist?

I'm in L.A. CA - the prices topped $3.00 at all the stations around me. I'm betting in Needles CA it is over $4.00...

What gets me is the profits are at an all time high but they say we are not getting gouged. Whoever they are...

Profits being up I understand....

If you make 7% on a product, you'll make .07 on a gallon if it costs a dollar, but you'll make .21 per gallon when it hits $3/gallon...

If you sold the same amount of gas- you'd make more money. I don't fault them for making a profit. I don't think they changed their buisness models to do it.

I just wish we'd let them drill and build refineries so the price could be brought back to a reasonable level....

I'd love to go back to a time when the gallons counted up faster than the dollars....

*sigh*
